Safety

Last updated October 16, 2026

Sancy AI is a study app, and its tutor is an AI. It is not a counselor, a doctor, a therapist or an emergency service. This page is our published protocol for self-harm and crisis: what the tutor does if you tell it something serious, what it will not do, and what we keep.

If you need help now

  • In the US, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) at any time.
  • Text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
  • If you or someone else is in danger right now, call 911 or your local emergency number.
  • Reach out to someone you trust, such as a friend, a family member or a counselor.

What the tutor does

If you say you may hurt yourself or someone else, that someone is hurting you, or that you are in crisis, the tutor stops the lesson. It answers briefly and kindly, in one or two sentences, and points you to 988 (call or text), to a trusted adult and to 911. It does not go back to studying in that reply. The app then pauses the session and shows the helplines above. You can close the session at any time.

The same rule is part of every request our server sends to the AI, whatever the app asks for, so it cannot be switched off from the browser. A short check on your device also catches some worrying messages before they are sent, and the grader looks for them too.

What the tutor will not do

  • Pretend to be a person, or claim to have feelings. It says it is an AI if you ask.
  • Act as a friend, partner or companion, or take a romantic role. It never says it missed you or wants you to stay.
  • Act as a therapist or counselor, diagnose anything, or give medical, mental-health or legal advice beyond pointing you to people who can help.
  • Ask about your feelings, mood or personal life unless you bring it up, and then only enough to answer kindly and steer back to studying.
  • Ask for personal details such as your full name, address, school or phone number.

It always says it is an AI

Every tutor is an AI and says so. The session always shows the tutor's name with an "AI tutor" label, so you can see it the whole time you study.

If you are under 18

Sancy AI is for students 18 and over. If you tell the tutor you are under 18, it ends the session kindly. It does not lecture you. Your account is paused straight away and our team is told. Answering the age question again doesn't lift the pause: only our team can, once it has confirmed you are 18 or over. If the team hasn't cleared the account within 7 days, the account and its data are deleted automatically. Our team deletes any account that belongs to someone under 18, with its data.

What we keep

When a session is paused for safety, we record that it happened and what kind of flag it was, with no words from the conversation. These records are deleted after 90 days.

Each time a reply is flagged for self-harm or distress, we also add one to a count for that day. The count has no account, no name and no words. We keep these counts for 3 years because some state laws ask how often crisis help was offered.

We do not read your sessions, and we cannot see them unless you choose to share an explanation with a rating.

What we cannot promise

The tutor is software and can miss things or get them wrong. It is not monitored by a person in real time, so it cannot send help to you. If you are in danger, contact the people above directly.

Report a concern

If the tutor said something that worried you, or did not respond the way this page describes, email support@sancyai.com with the subject Safety, or use Report a problem in the app (You, then Help and legal). We read every message. If someone is in danger right now, contact the people at the top of this page first.
